Kozhikode: The CPI (M) efforts to appease the majority community by making anti-minority moves will have serious consequences, said MP Veerendrakumar. He added that the CPI (M) was following such policies in order to escape from the political truth that the party had gone far away from people.

He asked the CPI (M) to make it clear what changes organizations like the Jamat e Islami had undergone as different from when they had voted for the CPI (M). No fundamental change has happened in them. The Solidarity is taking up struggles that the left parties including the CPI (M) should have done. Others will utilize the void created by the staying away of the socialist communist organizations. He accused the CPI (M) of joining hands with communal persons like Raman Pilla (formerly with the BJP) and PC Thomas (who had worked together with the BJP and was recently barred by the Supreme Court for using communal forces in election), he added.

The signs of the CPI (M) getting hindutvaised are getting clear day by day, said SA Puthiyavalappil, state president of the INL. The CPI (M) is eager take into the front PC Thomas who had become union minister in the NDA government, avoiding the INL which had been with them for the past 14 years. Majority of the members of the party and the committee were in support of leaving the LDF relation, he added.

Earlier this week, Jamat e Islami state Amir T Arifali had said that the CPI (M) was trying to turn the Kerala politics from anti-fascism-cum-capitalism to anti-Muslim-cum-Dalit and that it would have serious consequences. The communal harmony that Kerala has been keeping for decades will be affected if CPI (M) makes attempts on communalization. He added that if terrorism and communalism were growing in Kerala, that was only because of the failure of the government.

The new change in the attitude of the CPI (M) was clearly understood when the government decided to withdraw the Devaswom Bill which was intended to regulate the administration of Hindu temples. The bill was withdrawn reportedly due to the opposition of the powerful Hindu organization NSS. The party leaders accused that the struggle of the people of Kinalur against a proposed road which would deprive them of their lands was a conspiracy of communal and terrorist forces, mentioning the involvement of the Jamat e Islami and the Solidarity Youth Movement as well as the Popular Front of India. Attacks against the JIH increased after the leaders of the Muslim League held talks with its leaders and the JIH announced its decision to play an active part in the up-coming three tier panchayat elections. Recently, the party’s new policy was clearly stated by the state Chief Minister when he said that Christian-Muslim communalism was increasing in the state. Political leaders have severely condemned the CM’s statement. However, the central leadership of the party too has decided to go on with the state leadership’s campaign against the ‘minority communalism’.
