Mohsina Kidwai elected unopposed to Rajya Sabha

Raipur : Senior Congress leader Mohsina Kidwai and Bharatiya Janata Party’s tribal leader Nand Kumar Sai were Thursday re-elected unopposed to the Rajya Sabha from Chhattisgarh.

Both the leaders were re-nominated by their parties from the mineral rich state that had two vacancies for the upper house of parliament.

Devenedra Verma, the returning officer and secretary to the Chhattisgarh assembly, declared them elected unopposed on the last day of withdrawal of papaers.

Kidwai, 79, belongs to Uttar Pradesh and Sai, 64, to the state’s northern Surguja belt. They were set to complete their terms June 29 and were issued certificates of their election at a function at the assembly complex.

In the 90-member state assembly, the BJP has 48 members while the Congress has 39. The Bahujan Samaj Party has two members and one seat is vacant.
