Nine Delhi malls to sell liquor from next week

New Delhi : People in the capital can buy liquor from some malls beginning next week, with the Delhi government Thursday deciding to grant nine of them liquor licences.

“Some selected malls in the city will sell liquor from next week. Fourteen malls applied for licence for selling liquor out of which nine have been shortlisted,” Delhi Excise Minister A.K. Walia said.

Walia said the minimum criterion is that the shop should have 1,000 sq ft area.

“The selected nine malls will be submitting Rs.600,000 per licence on annual basis,” a senior excise official said.

Although, the excise department is yet to inspect the malls, they are hoping to complete the process in the next few days.

“Hopefully, all the shops will start operating in the nine malls from next week,” the official added.

According to officials, the nine malls include those located at Janakpuri, Rohini, Netaji Subhash Place, Wazirpur, Raja Garden and Laxmi Nagar.
