BJP national executive meet begins

Patna : Posters, banners and saffron flags of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) dotted many roads of the Bihar capital with the party’s two-day national executive meet set to begin Saturday, where it would deliberate on a strategy for the coming state assembly polls.

BJP president Nitin Gadkari, party veteran L.K. Advani, senior leaders Sushma Swaraj, Arun Jaitley, Murli Manohar Joshi, Venkaiah Naidu, Rajnath Singh, Ananth Kumar and Shahnawaz Hussain arrived here Friday evening.

Other party leaders set to attend the meet include chief ministers of BJP-ruled states like Narendra Modi (Gujarat), Raman Singh (Chhattisgarh) and Shivraj Singh Chouhan (Madhya Pradesh).

BJP spokesman Ravi Shankar Prasad told mediapersons here Thursday that the meet will discuss the strategy to be adopted for the assembly polls due in October-November. It will also discuss the political situation in neighbouring Jharkhand following imposition of President’s Rule.

Police said tight security was in place for the meeting.

“Multi-layered security arrangements have been put in place for the BJP leaders here,”

Additional Director General of Police (Headquarters) P.K. Thakur told IANS.

Patna Senior Superintendent of Police Amit Kumar Jain said that 11 top BJP leaders would be provided special security cover as per the instructions of the home ministry.
