The Spaniard who won the title in 2008 will stand second as the All England Club committee exercised its right to adjust seedings by proficiency on grass for the Championships starting Monday.

Three-time finalist Andy Roddick and 2002 champion Lleyton Hewitt were given major boosts in the list, with the seventh-ranked American Roddick placed as fifth seed behind number three Novak Djokovic and number four Andy Murray.

Australian Hewitt, winner of the Halle grass title at the weekend over Federer, was boosted from his 26th ranking up to 15th in the seedings.

Queen’s winner Sam Querrey of the US was seeded 17th from his 21st ranking.

The women’s field, headed by Serena Williams, follows the WTA rankings precisely.
