Meerut : Students of Meerut University may not like it, but their parents surely will. The varsity is launching a web page with details of the academic performance and attendance of each student.
Parents and guardians of the students will need to just log in to know the results and other details of their children. This may not be welcomed by the students who would want to enjoy the freedom of campus life by bunking classes and hanging out with friends.
“Be it the daily attendance, marks scored in internal exams, tests or anything related to academic performance of students, the parents will now be able to keep themselves updated on all such fronts,” Chaudhary Charan Singh Meerut University’s official spokesperson S.C. Piplani told IANS.
“There would be a separate web page of every student that will contain a complete data bank of his/her academic records and would be updated regularly,” he said.
The web page, which would be available on the varsity’s website, www.ccsuniversity.ac.in, will be accessed by a particular user ID and password. These will be provided to every student and conveyed to their parents or guardians.
The new exercise, according to the university officials, is the first of its kind in the country.
“The web page would not be just an information provider to the parents about the academic performance of their children. It would provide multiple benefits to the students also,” said Piplani.
“Just assume that you are to appear for an interview and the employer asked you to come with your final year marksheet that is still to be issued by the varsity. In such a case, you just need to log in the web page to take out your marksheet or certificates directly from there.”
“We have already initiated the exercise of creating the web page. This will be available on the website from the upcoming academic session (from August). Moreover, if you have misplaced your marksheet and need it urgently, you can get the scanned copy of the same by logging on the web page,” Piplani said.
Initially, the varsity administration has decided to create the web page for first year students of postgraduate and undergraduate courses.
Around 1-1.25 lakh students enrol every year with the varsity and its 75 affiliated colleges for various first year graduate and postgraduate programmes.
According to a first year undergraduate student, the web page may prevent students from enjoying campus life and bunking classes to spend time with friends.
