Hope police will be attentive: Dikshit on honour killings

By IANS,

New Delhi: With two incidents of suspected honour killings being reported in the capital, Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit Monday said she hoped Delhi Police would be “more attentive” to ensure that such incidents do not recur in the city.

Her comments came in response to a question on the alleged honour killing of a couple who had married four years ago against the wishes of the girl’s parents and were found murdered in north Delhi’s Ashok Vihar area.

“I do hope police will be more attentive,” the chief minister said to a query.

While 26-year-old Kuldeep was found shot dead in his car Sunday evening, his wife Monica, 23, died after being attacked by a sharp object at their home.

In another incident, a 19-year-old girl and her boyfriend were electrocuted to death in the city last week as their families objected to their relationship.
