Monday that the BJP-led national alliance was crumbling.

“The thesis of bipolarity of the BJP-led NDA (National Democratic Alliance) has been rejected by people… There is one national party and there are other parties,” Congress spokesman Manish Tewari said.

He said that the BJP-led NDA had been twice rejected by people over the last six years and allies such as the Biju Janata Dal had parted ways.

“The latest episode where JD-U, specifically the Bihar chief minister, has publicly upbraided (Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi) and made his displeasure evident… one thing is clear that the NDA as an alliance has ceased to exist,” he said.

He said the NDA “may exist on paper but it was only matter of time before the remaining constituents also start looking for alternatives”.

Ahmed Patel, political secretary to Congress president Sonia Gandhi, Saturday ruled out an alliance with the JD-U, saying the party will go it alone in Bihar.
