Lucknow: Regional Passport Officer, JP Singh said on Monday that the pendency of passports of Haj pilgrims will be completed in a day or two. As many as ten employees from the office, said Singh, had been deployed to complete the work in due course of time. Singh was addressing a press meet at his office premises on Monday.

“As many as 2122 passports of Haj Pilgrims have been dispatched so far against 7672 total applications received by the Regional Passport Office. A total of 3301 applications have been cleared for police verification while the remaining 1173 are under process for the police verification. We will dispatch the remaining in a day or two” he added.

Singh also said that for the remaining 4326 applications, the related verifications from the concerned districts were awaited and as soon as the details were received, passports would be dispatched.

“Till now we had reported 170 incomplete cases and 36 adverse cases,” he added.

For the incomplete cases, said Singh, the applicant was supposed to file an affidavit as early as possible so that the dispatch occurred at time. He also said that this year adverse cases might not get the passports. Interestingly last year passports were submitted to all the adverse cases. “Incomplete cases will get passports once they file the affidavit. However I am not sure about the adverse cases as it is highly unlikely for them to receive the passports this year,” he said.

It may be mentioned here that the passports issued this year could be used for purposes other than Haj pilgrimage also. The last date of submitting the Haj forms at State Haj Committee is June 30. Meanwhile Cabinet Minister and Chairman, State Haj Committee Naseemuddin Siddiqui had earlier urged the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to extend the date for submission of Haj application forms.
