Meira Kumar mourns Digvijay Singh’s death

New Delhi: Lok Sabha Speaker Meira Kumar Thursday condoled the death of former union minister Digvijay Singh saying the country has lost an eminent parliamentarian and a farsighted leader.

“I am saddened to know of the demise of Digvijay Singhji. In his untimely death, we have lost an eminent parliamentarian, able administrator and a farsighted political leader.”

The speaker said that throughout his public life and during his various stints in key ministries at the central government, Digvijay Singh was genuinely concerned about the issues relating to the masses, particularly those which affected the poor and the deprived.

“His contribution in different areas of national endeavour, including in the sports administration, was highly commendable,” the speaker said.

“His demise is a great loss and I extend condolences to the members of his bereaved family and pray to the God to give them strength to bear the irreparable loss,” the speaker added.

The independent Lok Sabha MP from Bihar died in a hospital in London. He was 54.
