The development dreams of Malappuram district remain untouched even 42 years after the formation of the district. The party is demanding the division of the district because of its backwardness, geographical extent and population. Other political parties in the state should make their stand clear on the matter, he said.

Malappuram is the most populated district and geographically it is the third largest in the state. It is 135 kms long from the eastern end to the western end. When Wynad with only 8 lakh population and Alappuzha with just 1,414 km2 can be districts, it is essential for the realisation of development that Malappuram be divided as it has seven municipalities, six talukas, 14 development blocks, two revenue divisions and 36.25 lakh population. He added that the demand had popular support and the MLA of Tirur PP Abdullakkuttty backed it.

The party leaders met the CM under the leadership of state president Adv kp Muhammed Shareef. Petition was given to Opposition Leader Oommen Chandy and the 12 MLAs of the Malappuram district.
