Shimla : Power supply in Delhi, Haryana and other northern states normalised Friday as the 1,500 MW Nathpa Jhakri hydel power plant resumed generation in Himachal Pradesh’s Kinnaur district, an official said here.
The plant was temporarily shut down Thursday noon after the level of silt rose in the Sutlej river.
The power generation was resumed Thursday night after the silt level in the river came down between the permissible limits of 4,000 and 5,000 ppm (parts per million), said Vijay Verma, deputy general manager of the Satluj Jal Vidyut Nigam Ltd (SJVNL), the company that operates the plant.
The silt content suddenly increased to more than 7,500 ppm due to heavy rainfall in the catchment area of the river on which the plant is based.
“Now the electricity supply to the beneficiary states is normal,” Verma told IANS.
SJVNL, a joint venture between the Himachal Pradesh and the central governments, daily generates about 38 million units of power which is supplied to Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, Himachal Pradesh, Delhi, Jammu and Kashmir, Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand.
