New Delhi: The Interview Committee of B.Tech. program at Jamia Millia Islamia caught 8 cases of impersonation on 24 June. While six impersonators were apprehended, two managed to flee before they were noticed. This is the fourth time in the running month that the university has apprehended impersonators.
“They found in 6 of these cases that the student appearing for the interview on 24 June was not the same as the one who had appeared in the Entrance Test held on 29 May. The University, as a matter of policy adopted this year, had photographed all candidates who had appeared in the Entrance Test held on 29 May 2010,” said Jamia Media Coordinator.
The names of the 6 candidates apprehended by the Interview Committee are Jamil Ahmad,Ritesh Kumar, Mohd. Tabrez Alam, Rashiduzzaman, Zahid Jouhar, Mohd. Mazharuddin. Two other candidates Shaquib Farahan and Mohd Akram, who had come to appear for the interview on 24 June, saw that the Interview Board of the University was verifying the identity of the person appearing for the interview by matching it with the photograph taken on the day of the Entrance Examination. Realizing this, they left from the waiting area.
The Interview committee of the B. Tech. program had on three earlier occasions, on 17 June, 18 June and 22 June, reported cases of impersonation which were duly forwarded to the University Proctor for necessary action.
“Jamia’s zero tolerance policy against impersonation and cheating has paid off this year.
The University has had great success in apprehending those found guilty of impersonating in the Entrance Examination for the session 2010-11. 3 boys were caught by the University administration impersonating for candidates in its B. Tech. Admission Test on 29 May. 2 more were apprehended while impersonating for candidates in its BDS Admission Test on 30 May.1 more was caught impersonating in the Diploma Engineering Entrance Test held on June 1.
2 more students were caught impersonating in the Entrance Test of Diploma in Elementary Teacher Education on 6th June. The last two being Jamia students, they were expelled from the University by Vice Chancellor Mr. Najeeb Jung,” said the Media Coordinator.
This year Jamia had introduced mandatory photographing of candidates at the test centres prior to being allowed to enter the examination hall. In addition, Jamia had also appointed Identification Officers at all the test centres. The university administration had cautioned University officials to be extra vigilant and ensure that no case of cheating goes unreported.
These new measures by the Jamia administration have borne fruit and have gone a long way in not only apprehending those subverting the law but in ensuring a fair selection to all its courses.
