The protest march here was led by BJP vice president Purshottam Rupala.

Addressing party workers, Rupala termed the United Progressive Alliance (UPA) central government as insensitive to the needs of the people.

“This hike will break the back of the poor and middle class,” he added.

In Vadodara, a bicycle rally was taken out to voice opposition to the hike.

An effigy of Congress president Sonia Gandhi was burnt by BJP workers in Palanpur town of Banaskantha district.

Reports received from Jamnagar said BJP workers stopped vehicular traffic as a mark of protest.

In all district headquarters, the party workers submitted a memorandum to the district collector, demanding withdrawal of the fuel hike.
