Hyderabad: Two miners were killed and 15 others injured in a mine accident in state-owned Singaneri Collieries Company Limited (SCCL) in Andhra Pradesh Monday.
The incident in 10-A coal mine in Ramagundam in Karimnagar district occurred when the cable of a man-riding trolley broke down.
Company officials said the trolley fell down killing two miners and injuring 15 others. The condition of the two of the injured is stated to be critical.
The injured were shifted to a hospital in Ramagundam. Doctors operated upon one of the injured who had an iron rod piercing his abdomen. The rod was removed and he is now stated to be out of danger.
The mine workers alleged that the management was interested only in production and was not bothered about their safety.
Jointly owned by state and central governments, the SCCL operates mines spread over four districts of Telangana region.
It employs over 75,000 people and produced nearly 45 million tonnes of coal during 2008-09.
