Punjab flags off motorcycle highway patrol

Chandigarh : In a bid to make national highways safer and to streamline the flow of increasing traffic, a new highway patrol scheme was launched in Punjab with the flagging off of 50 Enfield motorcycles here Monday.

All of these motorcycles are equipped with latest gadgets to meet the demanding requirements of highway patrolling.

“This fleet of motor-cycles has been introduced on 534 kilometers of national highway falling in Punjab, from Shambhu to Jalandhar, Jalandhar to Amritsar and Jalandhar to Pathankot, besides on the roads connecting these highways to airports at Amritsar and Mohali (in Chandigarh),” Deputy Chief Minister Sukhbir Singh Badal said.

All motor-cycles have been equipped with latest gadgets such as GPS (global positioning system), wireless and mobile phones, warning lights and sirens besides other aids required for traffic management and control, he said.
