JP Memorial Lecture on Images and Representation of Indian Muslims

New Delhi: Prominent Civil liberties’ organization, People’s Union of Civil Liberties (PUCL) this year will be organizing its 30th JP Memorial Lecture on Images and Representation of Indian Muslims. The lecture is scheduled on 23 March 2010, 5:00 pm onwards at Gandhi Peace Foundation, Deendayal Upadhyaya Marg, Delhi. The lecture will be delivered by Prof. Mushirul Hasan, a renowned historian and former Vice-Chancellor, Jamia Millia Islamia.

National General Secretary of PUCL, Pushkar Raj while talking to TwoCircles.net said, “We have chosen this topic to break the myths and stereotyping about Muslims in India”. “The lecture, like earlier is expected to generate a new debate on the issue,” he added.

PUCL has been organising JP Memorial Lecture since 1981, on 23 March every year, the date on which the Indian State of Emergency was lifted in 1977. It is considered as one of the serious events in India civil society initiatives.
