New Delhi : The National Geographic channel Thursday launched the second edition of its photography awards that provide a platform for budding as well as professional photographers to showcase their flair of capturing the perfect moment.
The Nat Geo Moment Awards “aim to identify and honour the best talent in two segments, the best photograph and the best short mobile film”.
Participants can submit their entries through a special Moment Awards application on Facebook (www.facebook.com/momentawards) or Orkut in five categories: Wildlife, Landscape, Global Warming, India and Tata Docomo Do Moments.
The last category “is about pictures that reflect everyday settings of human life, suggesting a story simple and focused”, a National Geographic statement said.
Each category is further sub-divided into amateur and professional, “inviting people from all walks of life who have a story to tell”, the statement added.
The contest would be judged by an eminent jury comprising renowned wildlife filmmaker and conservationist Mike Pandey; architectural and social documentary photographer Amit Pasricha and well-known photographer Pradeep Dasgupta. After a series of evaluations, the final winner of the competition would be announced in May 2010.
The channel is planning to organise photography workshops and exhibitions in association with the British Council at the end of the contest.
Speaking about the initiative, Rajesh Sheshadri, senior vice president (Content & Communication), National Geographic Channel India, said: “National Geographic is home to some of the highest quality photojournalism in the world and at National Geographic Channel, we have always encouraged creativity and talent.”
“Nat Geo Moment Awards is one such endeavour to bring hidden Indian talent to the forefront,” Sheshadri added.
To promote the contest,the channel is also showcasing a special series focusing on the greatest Nat Geo photographers and the most iconic Nat Geo Moments captured on camera by then. The series will air every Saturday at 9 p.m.
