Pakistani smuggler killed along Punjab border

Jalalabad (Punjab) : A Pakistani national was killed in a gunbattle with security forces Thursday while trying to smuggle in 26 kg of heroin and fake currencies with a face value of Rs.18 lakh along the international border here.

According to the Border Security Force (BSF), four smugglers were intercepted while trying to sneak into India at border post S. Wala along the 553-km long fenced-border.

“After getting a tip-off, we laid a trap. Initially, we warned them to surrender but they started firing at us and we had to retaliate,” Jagir Singh, Punjab range deputy inspector general of BSF, told IANS.

He said that during the gunbattle “one Pakistani national was killed” while the rest managed to flee.

The BSF recovered 26 kg of heroin, fake currencies having face value of Rs.18 lakh and a pistol from them.

Jalalabad town is around 250 km from the state capital Chandigarh.
