Weak states threaten India’s security: Tharoor

By IANS,

New Delhi : “Weak and failing states” in the neighbourhood threaten India’s security and affect New Delhi’s fight against terrorism, Minister of State for External Affairs Shashi Tharoor said Friday.

“Weak and failing states in neighbourhood are a threat to India’s security,” Tharoor said at a seminar held here to debate ‘India’s place in multi-polar world’.

Without naming Pakistan, he said that India’s fight against terrorism could be seriously affected by the failure of neighbouring countries to do so.

He also spoke about democratisation of international bodies like the UN to make them more representative of a changing world.

The seminar was organised by Alfred Herrhausen Society (International Forum for Deutche Bank), Policy Network, London, and the Indian Council for World Affairs (ICWA).
