“Mr. Obama is the greatest and the last chance for the United States to make real change and repair its image in the world,” Ahmadinejad said in an interview with the New York Times on Thursday.

The Iranian president said that the US should seize this opportunity, because such an occasion will not come around again.

Ahmadinejad said that many countries are unhappy with the terms of the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT) and want it to be revised.

He added that the nuclear-armed states should not be against the revision of the NPT.

“One of the problems of the NPT which needs to be addressed is that sometimes the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) disturbs nuclear weapons-free members instead of preventing the production of nuclear bombs in nuclear-armed states,” Ahmadinejad said.

“It appears that — given the current situation in the IAEA — anyone who seeks to exercise their rights will face various obstacles; whereas those who take illegal actions face no obstacle at all,” he added.

The fact that such problems exist in the international body means that the NPT needs to be revised, Ahmadinejad concluded.
