Gajjar crashes out, Yuki reaches second round of ITF

New Delhi: Fourth-seeded Rohan Gajjar of India failed to get the measure of Chinas’ Yu Chang losing 6-7(4), 6-2, 3-6 while second-seeded Yuki Bhambri advanced to the second round of the $15,000 International Tennis Federation (ITF) tournament at the DLTA complex here Tuesday.

Gajjar, who reached the quarterfinals in Kolkata last week, failed to get the measure of Chang and went down in 2 hours 16 minutes.

In other singles matches, top seed Rik de Voest of South Africa was stretched to three sets by N. Vijay Sundar Prashanth before winning 6-1, 3-6, 6-1. In contrast, Yuki breezed through to the next round with a 6-2, 6-0 win over Kaza Vinayak Sharma. Third seed Ranjeet Virali Murugesan outplayed wildcard Sai Kartik Nakireddy 6-0, 6-4.

Seventh seed Karan Rastogi overcame a second set fightback from Sundanwa Sitaram 6-2, 7-6(3). It was a confidence boosting victory for lucky loser Akash Wagh, who defeated Thailand’s Perakiat Siriluethaiwattana 6-3, 7-5.

However, Vivek Shokeen was shown the door by Chinese Taipei’s Liang-Chi Huang 4-6, 1-6 while wild card Ronak Manuja gave a stiff fight to Peng Gao before going down 6-7(5), 1-6.

Sixth seed Murad Inoyatov of Uzbekistan, the last week’s winner at Kolkata, outclassed P.C. Vignesh of India 6-2, 6-1 while Ronit Sigh Bisht went down fighting to Weerapat Doakmaiklee of Thailand 3-6, 7-6(5), 1-6. Abhijeet Singh Tiwari was defeated 3-6, 4-6 by Chinese Bowen Ouyang.
