Agartala : Tripura Police have busted an international gold smuggling racket with the arrest of a Maharashtra youth and recovered four gold bars worth Rs.1.2 million, an official said Tuesday.
“Acting on a tip-off, we arrested Anand Tulsi Roy Thurat, 32, from a hotel in Agartala Monday night. The youth purchased the gold bars weighing 700 gram from Bangladesh’s capital Dhaka and entered India Monday,” Deputy Superintendent of Police (Central) Harimohan Das told reporters.
He said that after preliminary interrogation, police handed over Anand, a resident of Sangli district of Maharashtra, to the customs to unearth the racket behind the illegal gold trade.
