New Delhi: Two serving and one retired professors from the Department of Hindi, Jamia Millia Islamia, have been given Awards by the Hindi Akademi for the year 2009-10. Prof. Syed Asghar Wajahat has been given the award of Best Playwright for the year 2009-10 while Prof. Abdul Bismillah has been bestowed with the award of Sahityakar Samman for the year 2009-10.
Prof Wajahat is best known for his “Saat Aasmaan” and his acclaimed play, Jis Lahore Nai Dekhya, O Jamyai Nai. Prof Bismillah, on the other hand, is best known for his celebrated workJhini-Jhini Bini Chadaria.
Prof. Mujeeb Rizvi, a retired professor from the Department of Hindi, has also been given an award for his contribution to Hindi Language and Literature for the year 2009-10.
The Award Function was held on May 11, 2010 at the Auditorium of the Delhi Secretariat. The Award was conferred on them by Chief Minister of Delhi, Smt. Sheila Dikshit, who is also the President of the Delhi Hindi Akademi.
