Chandigarh : Panchayat elections in Haryana will be held June 6 and 12, State Election Commissioner Dharam Vir said Saturday.
He said the elections in 13 out of 21 districts of Haryana will be held in two phases.
The elections would be held in Ambala, Bhiwani, Fatehabad, Faridabad, Jind, Jhajjar, Kaithal, Kurukshetra, Mahendergarh (at Narnaul), Sirsa, Sonepat, Mewat (at Nuh) and Palwal districts.
Elections to some of the panchayats are not being held as they have not completed their tenures.
The official said 63,98,342 voters of the 13 districts would exercise their franchise to elect 244 members of zila parishads (district-level), 1,792 members of panchayat samitis, 38,596 panches (village council members) and 3,971 sarpanches (village headmen).
The elections for sarpanches would be conducted with electronic voting machines (EVMs), for which about 14,000 machines would be used.
At least 12,566 polling booths would be set up for the elections and the time of the polling would be 7.30 a.m. to 4 p.m., he added.
