Ranchi : Counsel for slain journalist Nirupama Pathak’s mother, arrested for her daughter’s death, Saturday met the Jharkhand police chief and sought a fair probe into the case.
“I met Jharkhand police chief Neyaz Ahmad and requested him for a fair investigation into death of Nirupama. The investigation seems to indict the family members for her death,” Arun Mishra, the lawyer of Sudha Pathak, told IANS over the phone.
“There are ambiguities in the postmortem report. One of the doctors who conducted the postmortem says that he is a novice and had never conducted an autopsy before.”
Sudha Pathak was arrested May 3 on circumstantial evidence after her daughter was found dead in Koderma April 29. The family members insist that Nirupama committed suicide but her boyfriend Priyabhanshu Ranjan alleged that she was killed by the family members who were against their love affair.
The lawyer alleged that Niruapama’s boyfriend was taking advantage of being a journalist and was influencing the probe.
“We want a fair probe. If the probe finds anyone guilty, then that person should be punished. The investigation should not be done under prejudices or forming views about the accused,” said Mishra.
