Lucknow : Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Mayawati Wednesday filed her nomination papers seeking a fresh term in the Vidhan Parishad, declaring assets worth Rs.88 crore, a hike of Rs.36 crore from 2007.
In the 2007 elections to the upper house, Mayawati said she had assets worth Rs.52 crore. In other words, her wealth has gone up Rs.1 crore every month since then.
By her own admission, Mayawati owns a bungalow built on two adjoining plots (about 39,000 sq feet) on New Delhi’s upscale Sardar Patel Marg worth Rs.54.09 crore.
She also owns commercial property in the national capital — 34,112 sq feet worth Rs.15.5 crore in Okhla area and two spaces in Connaught Place, which measure 3,628 sq feet (Rs.2.05 crore) and 4,535 sq feet (Rs.1.27 crore).
Among her acquisitions was a mansion in Lucknow’s posh Cantonment area worth Rs.1.79 crore.
Mayawati does not own a single vehicle but has 380 carats of diamonds worth Rs.86 lakh, over 1 kg of gold worth Rs.19 lakh, a silver dinner set worth Rs.4.4 lakh and murals worth Rs.15 lakh.
Her bank deposits total Rs.11.39 crore with Rs.12.95 lakh in cash.
A former school teacher, Mayawati became the chief minister in May 2007 after leading her Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) to a majority in the assembly elections.
More than once, the Dalit leader has said that her wealth has been donated by party supporters and activists.
