New Delhi : The Congress Monday said it had not interfered in the release of film “Rajneeti” which has generated political heat for its reported depiction of Congress president Sonia Gandhi.
“The party and the government believe in the freedom of expression. The film finally got UA certification,” Congress spokesperson Jayanthi Natarajan told IANS.
She said the revising committee which saw the film “also had BJP sympathisers and people from civil society”.
Congress members Tom Vadakkan and Pankaj Sharma were part of the revising committee of the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) which suggested some changes after viewing the film.
Congress sources said there was no special screening of the film for the party members.
Though the revising committee said the film should get A certification, the Film Certificate Appellate Tribunal overruled it on an appeal by the film’s director Prakash Jha and granted it UA certificate.
The movie is releasing June 4.
