Mumbai : After charming Mumbai as they interacted and danced with students and also announcing $10 billion-worth business deals with India, US President Barack Obama and his wife Michelle Sunday afternoon left for New Delhi for official talks.
The Obamas danced with students of the Holy Name School in Colaba. The US first couple later met select students of St Xavier’s College where Obama answered questions on a wide array of subjects ranging from jihad to Pakistan.
On Saturday, Obama opened his four-day visit to India by paying homage to victims of the 26/11 carnage, followed by a visit to Mahatma Gandhi’s residence at Mani Bhavan. He also impressed corporate honchos at a meet in the evening where he spoke about increasing trade and investment with India and the US. Michelle had interacted with differently abled students at Mumbai University in the evening.
The White House announced commercial deals worth over $15 billion with India that will also address the domestic constituency by supporting nearly 54,000 jobs in the US – a key issue in a recession-hit America.
In New Delhi, Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and his wife Gursharan Kaur will receive the Obamas at Delhi airport.
Manmohan Singh will host a private dinner for the Obamas at his residence Sunday evening before the two sit down for formal talks Monday.
