Dubai: Sri Lanka, fresh from a series victory against Australia, have overtaken India to bag second place in the latest International Cricket Council (ICC) one-day rankings. The struggling Australia were still holding on to the top spot.
Despite losing two consecutive one-day series to India and Sri Lanka, Australia were sitting comfortably at the top with 128 points.
India with 117 points were pushed to third spot by neighbours Sri Lanka who stand second at 118 points after a famous 2-1 series win in Australia.
South Africa retained the fourth position after clinching the five-match one-day series 3-2 against Pakistan.
India will have the chance to regain the number-two position later this month when they take on New Zealand in a five- match one-day series. But to make that happen, the number one Test team will have to win all five games against the black caps.
A clean sweep will take India to 121 ratings points while a 4-1 series win will put them alongside Sri Lanka on 118 points. However, in that case Mahendra Singh Dhoni’s side would be placed just behind Kumar Sangakkara’s side by a fraction of a ratings point. The series starts Nov 28 in Guwahati.
Sri Lanka’s next ODI commitment is the five-match home series against the West Indies starting Dec 9.
The complete Reliance Mobile ICC ODI rankings as on Nov 9 are as follows:
