By NNN-Bernama,

Dubai : Global Village, a destination for families where diverse cultures, cuisine and commerce from around the world are showcased, has opens its doors here with its organizers anticipating at least five million visitors during its 111-day run this season, exceeding the 4.4 million registered during the 2009-2010 edition.

The 15th edition of Global Village will run until Feb 28, 2011, and will witness the participation of 41 countries, including Malaysia, in 28 pavilions.

“It features top-notch facilities and spectacular entertainment shows from around the world for the first time in the Middle East,” Global Village Chief Executive Saeed Ali Bin Redha said in remarks published ahead of Wednesday’s opening.

Malaysia External Trade Development Corporation (Matrade) Senior Trade Commissioner Dzulkifli Mahmud said he personally felt that the event was a good platform for Malaysian companies to showcase their products and services to the world.

“The event allows for direct business to consumer transactions. And given the anticipated number of visitors, it goes without saying that it will spell immense benefits for our Malaysian participants,” he told Bernama.

An Islamic Pavilion and other unique Emirati elements, offering glimpses of the region’s rich cultural repertoire to visitors, are among the highlights of the season.

Global Village will also host a total of 25 restaurants and 115 kiosks providing unique food and beverage options while the funfair at Global Village, located in Dubailand on Emirates Road, will offer more than 40 rides providing exciting leisure options for all ages.

The event was first held in 1997.
