New Delhi : Free luxury train trips, five-star hotel stays and a Jaipur-Agra tour — Indian athletes who won medals in the Commonwealth Games have a host of incentives lined up for them, courtesy the tourism ministry.
While complimentary trips on luxury trains were announced soon after the Games ended last month, the ministry Thursday said it will also provide a two night-three day stay in a five-star hotel to all gold medal winners and a three night-four day tour of the Golden Triangle — Delhi-Agra-Jaipur-Delhi — for all.
The winners can choose from luxury trains like the Royal Rajasthan on Wheels, the Maharaja Express and the Golden Chariot for their complimentary luxury train trip. They can take the trip with their coach or a companion.
“These incentives range from Rs.1.20-3.20 lakh per person according to the category of the medal won. The athletes can avail the trip up to March 31, 2012,” the ministry said in a statement.
Gold medal winners can avail of the free two night-three day stay package at 27 locations across the country in hotels like the Taj, Oberoi, ITC and Leela.
The Golden Triangle tour for all medal winners will include hotel accommodation, food and sight-seeing.
“Kumari Selja, minister of tourism, has written to all the medal winners telling them about the announcements. The ministry also wishes them luck for the Asian Games to be held in Guangzhou, China from November 12,” the statement said.
India won 38 gold, 27 silver and 36 bronze medals in the Oct 3-14 Commonwealth Games.
