Dubai: The Dubai Customs Sunday seized around 1,000 counterfeit travelers cheques which were sent from an African country to be encashed in United Arab Emirates (UAE) markets.
The cheques, bearing amounts in dollars and euros, were seized after customs officials at the Dubai International Airport checked the two parcels.
Omar Ahmed Al Muhairi, Senior Manager of Air Cargo Operations at Dubai Customs, said the investigation report has confirmed that the cheques were forged.
Al Muhairi said some gangsters try to encash forged cheques during Haj and Eid when many visitors come the country with travellers cheques.
