Lucknow : Seven people, including six of a marriage party, were killed and five injured seriously when a truck rammed into a jeep in Basti district of Uttar Pradesh Thursday, police said.
The accident occurred in Dasia village, along the Bansi-Basti road, when the jeep carrying 11 members of a wedding party was returning from Dharaula village.
“According to eyewitnesses, the truck spun out of control after one of its tyres burst, and collided with the jeep coming from the opposite direction. Five people were killed on the spot, while two died while being taken to hospital,” deputy superintendent of police Raj Bahadur Singh told reporters in Basti, some 250 km from Lucknow.
“The truck’s driver too was killed. The condition of the five injured is critical,” he added.
