Srinagar: Protesting against the atrocities by police, on Saturday hundreds of lawyers in the Indian Kashmir demanded a stringent action against the station house master of Ganderbal who allegedly thrashed one lawyer Jan Qadri, who had gone to collect reports of his detained client in Ganderbal police station.
The lawyers staged demonstrations at the Sadder Court complex in summer capital to protest the assault on their colleague by a senior police official.
“We demand that the police official to be brought to the book. This has happened with the law knowing persons, you can imagine to what extent they can go to harass the innocent civilians. The valley has turned into a police state and we all protest against such acts,” a lawyer told Agence India Press.
“This has not happened for the first time, but we have been bearing the brunt since a long time and the state has always acted as mute spectators,” he added.
Meanwhile, shops and business establishments remained closed in Srinagar and other towns of the Kashmir Valley, call for which had been given by veteran Kashmiri Hurriyat leader, Syed Ali Geelani in connection with the ongoing Quit Kashmir Campaign.
