Maheem Singh, who hails from Uttarakhand, was arrested in the wee hours from the Gulshaheed area, some 350 km from here.

“Preliminary investigations reveal that Singh was in Moradabad to hand over the illegal consignment of antlers to his clients,” police inspector Satish Kumar told reporters.

“Singh was actively involved in wildlife trade in Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Bihar and other states. With the help of the forest staff, we are trying to trace his clients and other associates,” he added.

According to forest officials, antlers are in demand for preparation of some traditional medicines and making showpieces.
