NTPC to set up 2,640 MW coal-based power project in Punjab

New Delhi : Power utility NTPC Friday said it has signed an agreement with the Punjab government and the Punjab State Power Corporation for setting up a 2,640 MW coal-fired power plant in the state.

“NTPC has executed a memorandum of understanding with government of Punjab and Punjab State Power Corporation Ltd. on Oct 07 for setting up 2,640 MW (4x660MW) coal-based thermal power project at Gidarbaha in the state of Punjab,” the company said in a regulatory filing.

The plant shall be set up as regional power project, the first by NTPC in the state, it said.

The company made this announcement during trading hours Friday.

The scrip declined by 0.30 percent to close at Rs.214.30.
