Thiruvananthapuram: The verdict of the Allahabad High Court in the Ram Janmabhumi-Babri Masjid title suit is the justification for the use of force, opined noted historian Dr KN Panikkar. He was speaking at the discussion organized by the ‘Purogamana Kala Sahithya Sangham’ on the topic ‘Ayodhya verdict – the invisible presence of communalism’.
Dr KN Panikkar said, “Some people say that there were 77 wars between Muslims and Hindus before 1949, and it is not right. Such a fight took place in Ayodhya only once and that was in 1885. Problems arose after idols were placed inside the masjid in 1989. What happened since ’89 was the history of Hindus trying to use force and attack. The Allahabad High Court verdict justified it. The court tried to make all those who approached it happy. It is not the duty of the court to make a compromise. Such a situation happened only because of the weakness of the government. The government has made history and communalism tools to strengthen power. Communalism is growing in a large number of government schools in this way.”
Neelamperur Madhusoodanan Nair presided over the function. KEN Kunhahammed, VN Murali and VK Joseph also took part in the discussion.
