“The union cabinet approved a proposal for redevelopment of Kidwai Nagar (East) for construction of residential accommodation for government employees,” a government statement said.

The project will be implemented by the National Buildings Construction Corporation (NBCC) in four years.

“About 4,550 modern, seismologically sound and technically advanced housing units of various types will be constructed in place of the existing 2,331 old houses,” the statement added.

There is an acute shortage of government housing in the national capital region, it said.

“Thus, there is a need to undertake a redevelopment programme to replace the old buildings with new ones and augment the housing stock by optimum utilisation of the existing land resources,” the statement said.
