The incident took place around 9.30 a.m. when the Tata Sumo vehicle, in which the official was travelling, was spotted at gate number one of the Central Government Offices (CGO) complex next to the stadium, the venue for the Commonwealth Games closing ceremony.

The sticker on the vehicle had a different registration number which led to a security scare as armed commandos surrounded the vehicle.

Later it was found that the vehicle was driven by a Uttar Pradesh police constable and an assistant superintendent of police of the CBI’s Anti-Corruption Bureau in Delhi was travelling in it.

The official was immediately taken to Lodhi Road police station where he was questioned and his identity verified.

The CBI official said he put the security sticker, issued by the home ministry for CGO complex entry, from another vehicle.

Delhi Police Wednesday alerted the security agencies and home ministry’s control room that a “suspicious” vehicle had entered Delhi from Noida with an Uttar Pradesh registration number.
