Raipur : Chhattisgarh has heightened security along with Orissa’s border following reports that Maoists were ordering the locals to join the outlawed Communist Party of India-Maoist (CPI-Maoist).
Extra forces have been rushed to Mahasamund and Raipur districts, a senior official at police headquarters told IANS.
Mahasamund and Raipur were considered largely untouched by Maoists. But police fought a fierce gun battle with heavily-armed guerrillas Oct 9 that left six Maoists dead.
But residents of the area accused police of killing innocent civilians.
Officials say about 2,100 people have been killed in the state in Maoist violence since the state was born in November 2000.
