Gandhinagar: A Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) court Friday reserved till Oct 26 its order on the CBI’s plea for taking voice samples of the five accused in the 2005 killing of Sohrabuddin Sheikh in an alleged staged shootout.
Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate A.Y. Dave reserved the order on CBI’s plea after hearing all the parties.
The CBI had sought the court’s permission to take voice samples of suspended police officials Abhay Chudasama, N.V. Chauhan, N.K. Amin and two other people – Raman Patel and Dashrath Patel – in connection with the case.
Amin, who wants to turn approver in the case, gave his consent to giving his voice sample whereas Chudasama and Chauhan opposed the CBI’s plea, contending it was unconstitutional. The CBI, however, strongly supported its plea.
Raman Patel and Dashrath Patel have already given their voice samples to the CBI.
Sohrabuddin Sheikh was killed in an alleged staged shootout Nov 26, 2005 by the Gujarat police. The killing allegdly involved many senior police officers and former Gujarat minister Amit Shah, who has been charged with running an extortion racket.
The Supreme Court had in January asked the CBI to investigate the case.
The hearing on Amin’s plea seeking to turn approver was, meanwhile, adjourned till Oct 26. He also filed an application Friday saying that his statement should be recorded as that of a witness and should not be considered as a confession.
