Initial reports said that the blast targeted a peace committee meeting in Tehsil Bara, Federally Administered Tribal Area of Pakistan.

The meeting was chaired by Amal Gul, who survived, but his guards have been critically injured, reported Dunya TV.

The nature of the blast is not yet known but eye-witnesses said that it was a remote-controlled bomb. The injured are being shifted to a hospital in Peshawar, almost 30 km from the site of blast in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province.

The markets in the suburban town were closed because of curfew. Otherwise, casualties could have been much more, the media report said.

Security forces have imposed curfew in the area as part of the ongoing operation against militants.
