Arafat Razhman has since 2008 been living in Thailand, where he is said to be receiving medical treatment. He was initially arrested in Bangladesh in 2007, as a suspect in a corruption case, but was allowed to travel abroad on humanitarian grounds.

Attorney General, Muhbubey Alam, said he could seek the help of the international police agency Interpol if Razhman fails to return to face trial. The chief law officer of the Supreme Court meanwhile confirmed that he could be tried in absentia.
