New Delhi: The Central Government has now agreed to include caste in the census with Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee yesterday informing the Lok Sabha that the Union Cabinet will endorse the move shortly.
Replying to the issue raised by yadav heavyweights including Lalu, Mulayam and Sharad during the Zero Hour on the last day of the Monsoon Session of the Parliament, Mukherjee said all parties are agreed on the inclusion of caste in the census and there should not be any apprehension about it.
He said the cabinet will soon take the final decision. Besides politicians, various organizations and groups of concerned citizens had made representation before the government authorities including the Prime Minister and had demanded inclusion of caste in the census.
