Kolkata : Police in West Bengal arrested three suspected Maoist cadres from Bankura district in connection with the killing of a police officer, police said Wednesday.
Bankura Police Superintendent Pranev Kumar said: “The arrested have been identified as Laksmikanta Borat, Thakurdas Duley and Ananda Tudu. The three are Maoist squad members and active in the Sarenga and Ranibandh police station areas of the district. They are accused of killing Inspector-in-charge of Sarenga police station Rabi Lochan Mitra.”
Mitra was killed by the Maoists while he was returning to the police station after a gun battle with the Maoists Feb 25.
The police chief claimed Thakurdas Duley and Laksmikanta Borat were directly involved in the killing, while Ananad Tudu helped them.
“We arrested Borat and Duley from Sarulia village of Sarenga police station and after interrogating them we got information about Tudu. He was later arrested from neighbouring Koyma village bordering West Midnapore district.”
“One country-made gun, some bullets and an IED were recovered from them. All three were produced before the Khatra sub-divisional court Wednesday and remanded to 14-day police custody,” said the police chief.
The Left rebels are active in Junglemahal (forested areas of West Midnapore, Bankura and Purulia) region of West Bengal.
