Jammu, Sep 12 (IANS) The central government has sought a report from the Jammu and Kashmir government on the violence in the Valley after the Eid prayers Saturday and the culprits behind it, official sources said.
The central government wants to know how Chief Minister Omar Abdullah was convinced there would be no disturbance during a separatist leader’s march to Lal Chowk in Srinagar, the sources said here Sunday.
On Saturday, widespread violence followed Eid prayers in Srinagar. An FIR was registered against moderate separatist leader Mirwaiz Umer Farooq for inciting violence.
The chief minister had granted “permission” to the Mirwaiz to take out a march on the “assurances conveyed” to him through his close confidant, sources said.
The sources said that New Delhi wanted a clear view on the developments Saturday and the violence that followed the Eid prayers, forcing the re-imposition of curfew in almost all parts of the valley since late Saturday night.
New Delhi has got contradictory versions from the government and the Mirwaiz’s moderate faction of the Hurriyat Conference, the sources said.
The central government has also asked for video clips of the buildings which were set afire by protesters after they had dispersed at Lal Chowk after hearing the two separatist leaders, the Mirwaiz and Jammu and Kashmir Liberation Front chairman Muhammed Yasin Malik.
