Kolkata: West Bengal Chief Minister Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee Monday took potshots at a section of the media for reporting that he had expressed doubts about the Left Front government being able to continue in power in the state.

“A section of media is misinterpreting my quotes by reporting that I have expressed doubts whether we will stay in power or not. I read such reports in some dailies. It was hilarious. They misrepresented what I said Sunday. They used their extra intelligence while drafting the reports,” Bhattacharjee said at an official function here.

Speaking at the inauguration of a handloom fair Sunday, Bhattacharjee had listed a series of programmes the government wished to do for the sector, adding: “If the government remains, then we will go ahead with such kind of things”.

A section of the electronic and print media interpreted the comments as an admission on the part of the chief minister that he was doubtful about the LF returning to power in the state after next year’s assembly polls.

Taking an aggressive posture to rubbish such reports, Bhattacharjee Monday made the main opposition Trinamool Congress as the obvious target of his attack.

“The people of the state won’t allow the reins of the state to go into the hands of an unruly and undisciplined party. We cannot transfer power to a party without any agenda. They will take the state to complete darkness,” he said while inaugurating a new building of West Bengal Industrial Development Corporation (WBIDC).

The ruling Left Front has lost a series of recent elections raising doubts on whether it can retain power in the coming Assembly elections.
