“We are positive to the idea that there must be a liberal visa regime between India and Pakistan. A joint working group would suggest further liberalisation,” Chidambaram told reporters here.

He said the idea to have a joint working group for further liberalisation of the visa rules had come up during the talks between the home secretaries of India and Pakistan in Delhi Monday and Tuesday.

“We have liberalised (the visa rules) considerably, but in the home secretary level talks there was a suggestion that we should meet again and a joint working group should be constituted to explore further liberalisation,” the home minister said.

During the India-Pakistan talks on security and terror related issues, the two sides agreed to set up a panel that will examine the modalities for streamlining the visa procedure and give a final shape to the revision of the bilateral visa agreement.
