World Cup a huge success: Pawar

Mumbai : International Cricket Council (ICC) president Sharad Pawar Saturday termed the 2011 World Cup as a “huge success”.

“In all respects it is a huge success; be it in terms of spectators, TV viewership, of the quality of cricket played so far,” Pawar told mediapersons here.

He also commended the security arrangements put in place for the tournament.

“The security has been excellent. With the VIPs and VVIPs coming, the spectators had to face some difficulties.”

He also acknowledged the support extended by the cricket boards of the three hosts – India, Bangladesh and Sri Lanka – as also the respective governments.

“Thanks to the World Cup hosts’ excellent organisation, the tournament has gone off well and has been incident free. All three host nations’ Prime Ministers have attended one or two matches. Their support and the administration’s support has been exceptional,” he said.
